TANUVAS (Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University) offers 14 courses under self-employment with a minimum qualification from read and write to10th pass. The courses include Dairy farming, Sheep Farming, Goat Farming, Fodder and Fodder Seed Production, Livestock Farm Waste Utilization, Rabbit Farming, Pig Farming, Japanese Quail Farming, Desi Bird Rearing, Fresh Water Fish Farming, Ornamental Fish Rearing and Breeding, Preparation of fermented dairy product, Emu Farming and Sea Weed Production. All the courses are for one month duration. For most courses the fee range is between Rs.500/- and Rs. 1000/-. In these courses candidates are given hands-on-training in a farm owned by elite farmers. On all the days in a week they visit the farm and carry out the assigned work and gain experience. At the end of the programme they are evaluated and certified. A total of 195 participants have enrolled for this course and 134 have completed.
Sheep Farming Courses and Goat Farming Courses – Admission
Advertisements about the courses offered are published in print media including TANUVAS publications, Vernacular and English dailies. Announcements are also made in Doordharsan and All India Radio. The applications received from the candidates are scrutinized by a committee. The eligible candidates are admitted throughout the year for all the courses listed in the annexure after getting the filled in applications along with necessary documents and course fee. The candidates are informed about their admission and subsequently the connected university centres are also intimated about the same. The admitted candidates are advised to appear in person for attending the courses.
Sheep Farming Courses and Goat Farming Courses – Course curriculum
The curriculum for each course has been designed by the concerned subject matter specialists identified by the university after many deliberations and evaluation by peer groups. Practical sessions and individual hands on practice in the farms are given topmost priority in all the courses.
Sheep Farming Courses and Goat Farming Courses – Content delivery/Learning sessions
Manual for the courses have been printed and distributed to the enrolled candidates. Practical exercises for one month or as per the duration of the course have been designed. Accordingly the learning sessions are organized in the farms.
Sheep Farming Courses and Goat Farming Courses – Evaluation
The candidates are evaluated based on the examination conducted at the respective centers and successful candidates are awarded completion certificates.
